We’ve partnered with updayton and need volunteers for the clean-up of the Rt. 35 overpass bridge area that connects the two neighborhoods: Saturday, July 16th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Burns – Jackson park (next to Rt. 35 in South Park). Afterwards, we will cross the bridge to the Oregon District to go to the Trolley Stop to mingle over food and drink.
Volunteers are needed for the clean up and the planning committee. To volunteer, email committee chair Demarus Crawford-White at dzc.white@gmail.com.
Bring a blanket and your friends for the Free Shakespeare! production of A Midsummer Nights Dream in Newcom Founders Park on August 5, 6, and 7. A cast of fourteen actors will perform in the heart of the Oregon District under the stars and amidst the fireflies each night (weather permitting) starting at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free (though donations will be accepted after the performance). For more information about Dayton-based Free Shakespeare!, visit www.freeshakespeare.com or www.facebook.com/spreadthewords.
Every year the city of Dayton offers neighborhoods the opportunity to apply for funding for community improvements through the mini-grant program (up to $3,000). This year’s application is due June 3 and the Oregon District is looking for a project. We are looking for something that is people-oriented and will transform the neighborhood in some way – perhaps through a series of events that will bring together neighbors who don’t know each other or, say, involve working with other neighborhoods and/or area businesses.
Please share your ideas for how we can improve the District!
